Anawhata

Anawhata is a beach on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand in the Auckland region. The beach is 40 miles or a 50 minute drive from Auckland. Access is only possible via a long dirt road that branches off from the road from Auckland to Piha and a subsequent steep path to the shore. Therefore Anawhata is one of the least frequented beaches around Auckland.

In the south of Anawhata are Piha, Karekare and Whatipu. To the north lie Te Henga / Bethells Beach and Muriwai Beach location.

Approximately parallel to the access road runs a brook, the Anawhata Stream, which flows along the coast.

The local tribe ( iwi ) Te Kawerau a Maki moved several hundred years here; Māori designed numerous settlements and fortifications.

1870 had here built farms and sawmills Europeans. A 14- km long railway line was built to transport the Kauristämme after Whatipu.

The beach is not guarded and like all beaches on the west coast of Auckland's dangerous because surf backflow.
