The Ibizan Andaluz is not recognized by the FCI breed of dog from Spain. The breed is recognized by the Spanish federation canine Real Sociedad Canina de España ( RSCE ) and out there with the standard number 401 in Group 5, Section 7.

Origin and History

The Ibizan Andaluz is in a group of hounds (Portuguese Podengo ) that is spread on the Iberian Peninsula and the islands vorgelagterten. Whether these dogs, as sometimes suggested, go back to the ancient Egyptian Tesem, or whether they have evolved independently from Mediterranean pariah dogs is unclear.

As the name suggests, the Ibizan Andaluz comes from the region of Andalusia. Podencos or Podengos are local strikes in Spain and Portugal, basically. They are hunting dogs, solitary hunters of small game, especially wild rabbits. Many of these breeds hunt with " Soft mouth ," that is they bring the prey to the hunter back to life. Only three of these local strikes have brought it to a breed recognized by the FCI, namely the Ibizan Hound of the Balearic Islands, the Ibizan Canario from the Canary Islands and the Portuguese Podengo from Portugal. The Ibizan Andaluz is not as yet represented. It is however recognized by the Spanish Stud RSCE at the national level as a race.
