Anderson Silva ( born April 14, 1975 in São Paulo full name Anderson da Silva ) is a Brazilian MMA fighter and former UFC middleweight champion. He holds in the UFC, the records for the most consecutive wins, most early victories and most title defenses, which he is considered by many as the best MMA fighter in the world.

Career

Silva dominated Brazilian Jiu -Jitsu, Capoeira, Judo and Muayerneutai. He began his competitive career in MMA in 1997 and graduated from, among others, Shooto fights in Japan. Then he moved to the Japanese organizers Pride FC. After further fighting in smaller leagues Anderson Silva denied in June 2006, his first fight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, in which Chris Leben went in the first round KO. In October 2006, he defeated Rich Franklin also in the first round by KO and was UFC middleweight champion. In February 2007, he was to defend his title for the first time, but because his opponent Travis Lutter could not meet the weight limit for middleweight, the encounter was not classified as a title fight. In the second round, Lutter patted down, da Silva in the triangle choke was able to land a series of elbows.

In July 2007, he defended his title against Nate Marquardt at UFC 73 by defeating him in the first round by TKO. In July 2008, Silva completed his first fight at light heavyweight. After about a minute, he was able to beat James Irvin KO. After the trip to the higher weight class he defended his UFC middleweight title against Patrick Côté in October 2008. Côté injured his leg in the third round and could not continue the fight. In April 2009, Silva rose to title defense against Thales Leites in the cage and was declared after five rounds of the judges as the winner. Silva joined in August 2009 again for a fight in the light heavyweight division, where he met the former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin. Silva led his opponent in the state by fighting over long distances without any coverage and Griffin suggested eventually after about three minutes of knockout. Then he had to undergo surgery on the elbow, which is why a UFC middleweight title bout against Vitor Belfort had to be canceled.

Silva fought instead in April 2010 at UFC 112 against Demian Maia. Re the title holder was dominant, and made in the first two rounds of his superiority in standing position significantly. In the following three rounds Silva lowered the tempo and became even admonished for lack of activity by the referee at the end. After five rounds, the judges Silva unanimously declared the winner.
