András Botos

András Botos ( born March 6, 1952 in Salgótarján ) is a retired Hungarian boxer and boxing trainer.

Botos Hungarian champion in 1971 and 1972 Featherweight ( -57 kg ), 1974, 1975, 1977 and 1978 in the Lightweight (-60 kg) and 1979 in the light welterweight ( -63.5 kg ).

In the youth level ( U19) was Botos bronze medalist at the European Championships in 1970. At the European Championships Men in the following year he won after a final defeat by Ryszard Tomczyk, Poland (5-0 ), the silver medal. At the Olympic Games in 1972 Botos reached after victories over Nopparat Preecha, Thailand (5-0 ), Michael Andrews, Nigeria (5-0 ), Louis Self, USA (3:2), and Kazuo Kobayashi, Japan ( 4:1), the semi-finals. In this he was the future Olympic champion Boris Kuznetsov, Soviet Union, against whom he defeated 5-0 judges' votes.

1975 Botos won the bronze medal at the European Championships in the lightweight and 1976 he took again unsuccessfully participated in the Olympic games. He left here in the quarterfinals against Vassily Solomin, Soviet Union (5-0 ), from.

After his playing days Botos was coach and coached among others Vilmos Balog.
