André Bucher

André Bucher ( * October 19, 1976 in Neudorf ) is a former Swiss middle distance runner, who was 2001 World Champion in the 800 -meter run.

The 1,86 m tall and 75kg studied primary school teacher started for the LR Beromunster. He was 2000 and 2001 Swiss Sportsman of the Year and European Athlete of the Year 2001. Thereafter bird was repeatedly slowed by injuries. After a one year break from competition he gave on 11 May 2007 announced his retirement from professional racing after in the preseason again health problems had occurred.

After studying economics with a focus on marketing Bucher worked from autumn 2009 at Migros in the sponsorship department. Since March 2012, he has worked as a cantonal representative for youth development in the sports department of the Canton of Zurich. Bucher has one son.

Achievements

At the 2000 Olympics André Bucher may have been brought to a medal, because he was jostled by Andrea Longo and the outcome of the race was very close. The Italian was later disqualified because of that. His greatest successes celebrated bird a year later, when he also five Golden League meetings (and thus a portion of the jackpot ) win and the IAAF Grand Prix Final was out of the world title.

Personal best

In his special discipline 800 meters Bucher reached at his personal best in August 2001, a time that was undercutting until that time only four runners. Later still stopped several times better, with Bucher is still one of the ten fastest runners.
