André Coindre

André Coindre (* February 26, 1787 in Lyon, France, † May 30 1826 in Blois, France ) was a Roman Catholic priest and founder of the fraternity " Frères du Sacré Cœeur ".

Life

André was, of four children, the eldest son of Vincent and Maria Marta Coindre from Lyon. In 1793 he was in the Church of Sts. Anthony baptized in it he should also celebrate his first Mass later. André experienced at the age of 6 years, the seizure of power by Napoleon Bonaparte and was told to stand up because of his fearlessness, his religion. The first religious principles gave him his pious mother, who taught him to pray and taught him the catechism. In the age of eight, André began his schooling at a neighboring teacher. In November 1804 began his priestly formation, the teachers and professors praised his eagerness to learn and his social behavior. His studies he finished with a rating of " Excellent ". 1809 celebrates André Coindre his first Mass in his baptismal church and was appointed to the seminary to Lyon. There followed in 1812 the appointment of chaplains to the Bishop and the inclusion in the chapter of the Archbishop of Lyon.

Founder

In 1821 he founded with the consent of the diocesan bishop of Lyon, the Congregation Frères du Sacré - Cœeur, he was also its first Superior General and led the community of school brothers under the motto " Ametur cor Jesus " (Love the Heart of Jesus ) until his death. With the worship of the " Sacred Heart of Jesus " Father Coindre embodied the symbol of the heart of Jesus for his love for people. In the first order, he wrote in Note 13: " To be a member of this community, means love of God to believe, to live it and to spread it. Particular, it should contribute as a religious educator for the evangelization of the world and the training of youth ".

Honors

In his honor, several educational institutions were named after him around the world. He is the father of André- Coindre award ( André Coindre Award), which is awarded to deserving personalities inside and outside the congregation.
