André Gingras

André Gingras (born 1966 in Canada, † February 17, 2013 in Breda ) was a Canadian dancer and choreographer. Gingras was one of the best dancers in the international contemporary dance scene.

Gingras received his dance training in Montreal, Toronto and New York and worked with Christopher Gillis, Doug Varone and Mariko Tanabe. From 1996 he lived in Europe and worked in the Netherlands. Gingras won in 1999 with his first solo as a choreographer promoting the Rotterdam Arts Foundation. His piece CYP17 won the Cadance Festival in The Hague. He received the 2002 award Epidauros and the same year he won with the piece The Sweet Flesh Room again the Cadance Festival. Since 2010, he led the company Dance Works Rotterdam.

Gingras died of cancer.
