André Hekking

André Hekking ( born July 20 1866 in Bordeaux, † December 14, 1925 in Paris) was a French cellist of Dutch origin.

Life

André Hekking came from a musical family, which also includes the cellist Anton Hekking ( brother) and Gérard Hekking ( cousin ) belonged.

On a trip to America, where his brother had for some years a commitment found, he played on May 17, 1896 at a charity concert at Carnegie Hall is a cello concerto by Anton Rubinstein. In 1909 he settled down Paris as a music teacher and in 1919 professor at the Conservatoire de Paris. There was Pierre Fournier one of his students.

Camille Saint- Saëns dedicated his 1919 composition " Prière " for cello and organ, op 158 Charles Tournemire dedicated his Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op 5

It is unclear whether he or Gérard participated in the premiere of Gabriel Fauré's String Quartet in E minor, Op 121 in the Société Nationale de Musique in Paris on 12 June 1925. With Pablo Casals, Joseph Diran Alexanian Salmon and he played the world premiere of Cello Quartet, Op 95 (1909 ) of Emánuel Moór, which in 1910 still a "Suite for Violin and Cello" Op 109 dedicated to him and George Enescu.

Hekking played on a 1721 cello built by the Italian violin-maker Domenico Montagnana in 1874. His daughter Jeanne married a native of Mirecourt violin maker Marcel Vatelot, and his grandson is the luthier Etienne Vatelot who has built a viola among other things, Tabea Zimmermann.
