André Messager

André Charles Prosper Messager ( born December 30, 1853 in Montlucon, Allier, † February 24, 1929 in Paris) was a French conductor and composer.

André Messager trained as a church musician in Paris, partly as a pupil of Camille Saint- Saëns, and it was active in various churches as organist and conductor. More and more he devoted himself to composition and made it a name.

In 1898, Messager director of the Paris Opéra -Comique, 1901 to 1906 he was Artistic Director at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, 1907-13, he served as co-director of the Paris Opera. Messager conducted in 1902 the premiere of Claude Debussy's opera Pelléas et Mélisande. As a composer he has contacted operettas and ballets in appearance especially. Sometimes be played today, the ballet Les deux pigeons (1886 ) and designated as a comic opera operetta Véronique (1898 ).

He also composed Community works together with other musicians. It is known to parody Potpourri Souvenirs de Bayreuth ( 1880) as a quadrille tunes by Richard Wagner, which he created with Gabriel Fauré.
