André Parrot

André Parrot (* February 15, 1901 in Désandans, Doubs, France; † August 24, 1980 in Paris) was a French Near Eastern archaeologist.

André Parrot studied Protestant theology at the Sorbonne. He then studied at the Ecole du Louvre in Paris and the École française de biblique et Archaeological Jérusalem Classical Studies. From 1931 to 1933 he was head of excavation in the ancient Mesopotamian cities of Lagash, Girsu and Larsa. In 1933 he became head excavations in the Syro - Mesopotamian Mari. This position he was to hold for about the next 40 years. In 1937, Parrot professor at the École du Louvre, 1946 head curator of the Museums of France, and finally from 1968 to 1972 director of the Louvre.
