André Theuriet

André Theuriet ( born October 8, 1833 in Marly- le- Roi, Yvelines, † April 23, 1907 in Bourg- la -Reine, Hauts -de -Seine département ) was a French poet, novelist and playwright.

Life and work

His school days spent Theuriet in Bar- le- Duc and then began studying law at the Sorbonne in Paris. After its successful completion, he got a job in the Ministry of Finance. At 29, he accepted a professorship at the University of Tours and taught there until 1863.

Already during his studies he became acquainted with various Parnassiens, to which one is also considered him today. 1867 could Theuriet with an anthology of poems ( " Chemin des bois" ) successful debut and at the end of his oeuvre included 226 works. His first poems were almost all already been published in various journals; many in the Revue des Deux Mondes.

1886 Theuriet went with the rank of department head retired and worked only in literature from this period. Honored him in 1890 to the French Academy the "Prix Vitet ". As Alexandre Dumas the Younger died in 1895, took the following year, the Académie française Theuriet as its subsequent member on ( armchair 2). The writer Jean Richepin 1908 Theuriets successor.
