André Vingt-Trois

André Armand Cardinal Vingt -Trois ( born November 7, 1942 in Paris, France) is Archbishop of Paris.

Life

André Vingt -Trois was born as a child of Armand Vingt -Trois and his wife Paulette Vuillamy in the 5th district of Paris. After his schooling at the Lycée Henri IV in 1962, he studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminary of Saint- Sulpice in Issy -les -Moulineaux. His studies he had by his military service where he was stationed in the Federal Republic of Germany, interrupt 1964-1965. He closed it with the theological licentiate at the Institut Catholique de Paris.

On June 28, 1969, he received by Cardinal François Marty the sacrament of Holy Orders. Subsequently, he was a chaplain in the parish of Sainte -Jeanne de Chantal in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. In 1974 he was appointed director of the Seminary of Saint -Sulpice and taught there also moral theology and sacramental theology.

Following the appointment of Jean- Marie Lustiger of Paris archbishop in 1981 appointed him Vicar General of the archdiocese. Pope John Paul II appointed him on 25 June 1988 Titular Bishop of Thibilis and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Paris. On 21 April 1999, he was appointed Archbishop of Tours, on 11 February 2005 as a successor to Jean -Marie Cardinal Lustiger Archbishop of Paris. In addition, he was appointed on 14 March 2005 to the Ordinary for the faithful of the Byzantine Rite in France.

Vingt -Trois was elected to Lourdes for the President of the French Episcopal Conference on 5 November 2007.

24 November 2007 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Luigi dei Francesi in the College of Cardinals.

2012 André Vingt -Trois has been invested in the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
