Andreapol

Andreapol (Russian Андреаполь ) is a town in Tver Oblast (Russia) with 8286 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the foothills of the Valdai Hills about 280 kilometers west of the Oblasthauptstadt Tver on the upper reaches of the Daugava.

Andreapol is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1907 Bologoje - Welikije Luki ( - Belarusian border) at kilometer 190

History

Since the 17th century the village was known Matschichino the village Dubna on the right bank of the Daugava river on the left, and since 1489 in place of the present-day city.

Matschichino 1783 in Andrejano poles ( means about Andreis field) renamed. The form of the name changed several times over Andrejewo poles, Andrejapol (1859 ) and Andriapol. The pin in place names is - in contrast to Sevastopol and other cities on the Black Sea coast (now Ukraine ) - non-Greek origin.

1907, was the railway station with the current name. The station settlement grew along with the old village, and in 1928 the neighboring village Dubna was incorporated.

In 1967 the city charter was granted.

Economy

In Andreapol there are enterprises of the timber and building materials industry, wood processing industry, as well as a porcelain factory.
