Andreas Bernardus de Quertenmont

Andreas Bernardus de Crossed Mont ( born 1 February 1750 in Antwerp, † June 3, 1835 ) was a Flemish draftsman, painter, engraver and etcher.

Life

Crossed De Mont was trained at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Antwerp under Philip Keminckx and devoted himself to compositions historical and religious scenes, but mainly of portraiture. He was appointed professor of the first winner of the Academy in Antwerp at all and subsequently for his work. In 1778 he was finally the Directorate of the house was transferred. Having opened in 1787 with great success into his own studio, he received the 1790 member Diploma of Dusseldorf Art Academy.

Restitution of Looted Art

  • The National Portrait Gallery in London has a portrait of Peter Scheemakers, the Mont de Crossed has 1776 painted in oil on canvas. The former owners are unknown, there is an indication of possible " looting" of Jewish property during the period of National Socialism: The painting came from Catherine Genevive Scheemakers to Marie Julie Thibaut ( born Duboureq ). It is not clear how it arrived in Paris in 1934 in the possession of Henri F. Rummel, president of the Shell Company in France.
