Andreas Rumpf

Andrew Hull ( born December 3, 1890 in Potsdam, † June 22, 1966 in Cologne ) was a German classical archaeologist.

One of the six children of the painter Fritz Rumpf (1856-1927) ( the elder ) and his wife Margaret Hull, born Gatterer, with numerous artists such as, inter alia, the painter Lovis Corinth friends were ( The painting " Family of the painter Fritz Rumpf " from 1901 now hangs in the National Gallery in Berlin ). The father built in 1895, the Villa Rumpf in Potsdam.

All six siblings, such as, inter alia,

  • The eldest daughter Gertraut
  • The eldest son of Friedrich Karl Georg (1888-1949) (also Fritz Rumpf ( the younger ) called ),
  • The second son Karl -Heinrich (1889-1914) artillery lieutenant fallen, 1914 in Lotz

And also the youngest son Andrew were introduced early in the art.

Andrew Hull studied in Leipzig with Franz Studniczka Classical Archaeology and became his doctorate in 1915 with a thesis on The murals in Veii. In the same place he habilitated in 1923 with a thesis on the Chalkidian vases, a special group black-figure pottery. In 1928 he took over the newly established Chair of Classical Archaeology at the University of Cologne, which he held until his retirement in 1960.

His estate is located in the University Archives in Cologne.
