Andrei Chesnokov

Andrei Petrovich Eduardo Chesnokov (Russian: Андрей Эдуардович Чесноков, scientific transliteration Andrej Ėduardovič Cesnokov; born February 2, 1966 in Moscow ) is a former Russian tennis player.

Career

Chesnokov began with the professional tennis in 1985. His highest world ranking (No. 9) he reached in 1991, that year he also won the belonging to the Tennis Masters Series tournament in Montreal. His first victory at a Masters tournament he celebrated in 1990 in Monte Carlo, as he could defeat the former Clay Court King Thomas Muster in the final without dropping a set.

In the years 1987 to 1990 he took a further five titles in tournaments of the ATP tour. His biggest success at a Grand Slam tournament dates back to 1989 - came at the French Open Chesnokov to the semifinals before, then it lost to the eventual champion but Michael Chang.

Chesnokov appeared also in 1988 for the Soviet Union and in 1992 for the Commonwealth of Independent States in the Summer Olympics.

In the Davis Cup, he came 1983-1997 to a total of 46 missions, 28 of which he could make victorious.
