Andrei Lankov

Andrei Nikolayevich Lankow (Russian: Андрей Николаевич Ланьков; born July 26, 1963 in Leningrad ) is a Russian orientalist with the Department of Korea. Internationally, he has become known about the history of North Korea through its publications and is considered one of the most prestigious North Korea experts.

Life

Andrei Lankow studied until 1989 at the Ostwissenschaftlichen Faculty of Leningrad State University. As part of his studies, he graduated from 1984-1985 a nearly year abroad in Pyongyang. To his postgraduate Lankow wrote a work on the medieval history of Korea. He stayed first at the university where he taught Korean language and history from 1989 to 1992. From 1992 to 1996 he worked in South Korea. Then he taught until 2004 Korean language and history at the University of Canberra in Australia, where he again returned to South Korea. Today, he works at the Kookmin University in Seoul.
