Andrej Ďurkovský

Andrej Ďurkovský ( born September 5, 1958 in Bratislava) is a Slovak politician (former KDH). He is the acting mayor of Bratislava.

Ďurkovský studied at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak Technical University. After the Velvet Revolution, he embarked on a political career in 1990 and joined the Christian Democratic Party in KDH. In 1994 he became mayor of the district Staré Mesto (Old Town ) in Bratislava. He held that post until 2002 and was then elected as mayor of all Bratislava. In 2006, he managed the re-election and remain in office until at least 2010.

After the parliamentary elections on 12 June 2010 he was elected a deputy in the National Council for the KDH; he will exercise the two mandates, according to his own statement to the local elections in autumn 2010, but will not accept the National wage at that time.

Ďurkovský is heavily criticized by both inhabitants of Bratislava as well as activists for his action with the city property and in particular to the park kultúry a oddychu ( PKO; German Park of Culture and Recreation ). The city council has sold the land in 2005 under the park to an investor, as part of a district called River Park. In March 2009, the city wanted to buy the land, but the developer wanted to 2.5x price, which was rejected by the city. However, in December 2009, the City Council approved a lease for 20 years for a hall on the site of PKO; this impact on resistance of the activists who Ďurkovský referred to as " liar ", while the future of the park is not safe even under threat of demolition.

Ďurkovský is married and has three children.
