Andrew Avellino

Andrea Lance Lotto Avellino CRth, Latinized Andreas Avellinus, in German-speaking Andreas Avellino (* 1521 in Castro Nuovo di Sant'Andrea in the province of Potenza, † November 10, 1608 in Naples) was an Italian priest, monk, missionary and general of the order. In the Catholic Church he is venerated as a saint.

Life

Andrea Avellino studied law and worked as a lawyer in spiritual matters. 1556 he joined the Theatines and worked from then throughout Italy as a missionary and preacher. Within the Order, he was highly regarded and held high office. Andrea Avellino died while he was reading the Holy Mass, by a stroke.

Worship

Andrea Avellino grave is in the church of San Paolo Maggiore in Naples. 1624 Avellino was beatified by Pope Urban VIII, 1712 by Pope Clement XI. canonized. His feast day is 10 November.
