Andrew Dũng-Lạc

Andrew Dung -Lac (* 1785, † December 21, 1839 in Hanoi ) was a Vietnamese Catholic priest and martyr.

As an extension to Trân in the North Vietnamese province of Bac Ninh born, he came with his parents 1797 to Hanoi and was educated here Christian. Having previously worked as a catechist three years he studied theology and was ordained a priest in 1823. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Minh Mang, he was first arrested in 1835, but ransomed by a ransom payment of his community. He changed his name in order to escape persecution.

On December 10, 1839, he was arrested again, released due to payments, and then captured a third time. He was beheaded on December 21, 1839, together with St. Peter Thi ( Van Truong Pham ).

He was beatified in 1900 and canonized on 19 June 1988. The Remembrance Day on 24 November - along with 116 other Vietnamese martyrs - is an optional memorial of the Catholic Church.
