Andrew Michael "Andy" Allen ( * August 4, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States) is a former American astronaut.

He is married and has four children. His hobbies include woodworking, weight lifting and cycling. In its first two space flights (1992 STS -46 and STS- 62 in 1994 ), he was a pilot, on his third and last ( STS -75, 1996) Commander. On 1 October 1997 he retired from NASA.

Space flights

Flight STS -46

On 31 July 1992, the mission of the launch pad 39 -B at the Kennedy Space Center launched into an orbit altitude of 426 kilometers. After solving some technical problems the European EURECA platform was suspended. Was also exposed to the American- Italian bondage satellite TSS - 1 but had to be brought back, because the rope is only about one tenth of its length unrolled (20 km). Additionally, smaller experiments were held. After 7 days, 23 hours and 15 minutes turned Allen's first mission on August 8, 1992 back to KSC.

Flight STS -62

On 4 March 1994, the mission launched for research purposes from the launch pad 39 -B at the Kennedy Space Center. After the execution of the experiments came Allen's second mission back to Earth. The landing in Florida on 18 March 1994. Allen and the rest of the crew were 13 days, 23 hours and 16 minutes have been traveling.

Flight STS -75

On 22 February 1996, the mission of the launch pad 39 -B at the Kennedy Space Center launched into an orbit altitude of 296 kilometers. In addition to smaller experiments on different scientific fields, the Italian bondage satellite TSS -1R was suspended, but in vain, because after 19 kilometers demolished the connecting cable and the satellite could not be captured. On March 9, 1996 Allen's third and final mission landed back on their starting place. The mission lasted 15 days, 17 hours and 41 minutes.
