As Mannsschild ( Androsace ) refers to a plant genus of the family of Primrose ( Primulaceae ). To this genus include about 100 to 125 species from the cooler regions of the northern hemisphere. The botanical name is derived from Greek andros for man and Sakos Shield, he was transferred from an algae species in this genus until the 16th century.

Description

Androsace species are one-, two-year or perennial herbaceous plants. Most species are stängellos ( acaulescent ), so the leaves are mostly basal rosettes; if there are the stem leaves then they are arranged opposite one another. The easy- petiolate or sessile leaves are.

The flowers are individually rare, mostly in doldigen inflorescences with bracts. The hermaphroditic, flowers are radial symmetry fünfzählig. The five sepals are fused campanulate to hemispherical. The five white, pink, purple, dark red or rarely yellow petals are fused Roehrig. The crown is at most the same length as the calyx. It's just a circle with five fertile stamens present; they do not protrude from the crown out because the stamens are very short. Also the stylus is shorter than the corolla tube.

The egg-shaped to spherical capsule fruits open near its base and contain few to many seeds. The brown seeds are winged.
