Andrzej Stanisław Załuski

Stanisław Andrzej Zaluski ( born December 2, 1695 in Jedlińsk; † December 16, 1758 ) was a Roman Catholic bishop, nobleman and bibliophile Poland - Lithuania.

Zaluski studied in Gdansk and Rome. His career in the Catholic Church began as a Department on October 22, 1723, he was appointed Bishop of Plock. He received episcopal consecration on 13 February 1724 by Felicjan Szaniawski, the Bishop of Cracow; Were co-consecrators January Feliks Szaniawski, Auxiliary Bishop of Kulm and Franciszek Józef Kraszkowski, Auxiliary Bishop of Gniezno. On November 19, 1736, he was appointed Bishop of Lutsk and on March 8, 1739 as Bishop of Kulm. This order was confirmed by Pope Clement XII. it was installed in the Cathedral of Culmsee in his diocese on 20 July 1739th On January 5, 1740. On March 12, 1746 he became bishop of Krakow, on May 2, 1746 the solemn installation in Wawel Cathedral in Krakow instead. Zaluski was one of the supporters of the Jesuits in Poland - Lithuania.

As a member of the szlachta, he obtained in 1735 the post of chancellor of the Polish crown, which he held until 1746. As a politician, he was committed to a reform of the always mangelhafteren Polish-Lithuanian state system in the 18th century.

He is, together with his brother Józef Andrzej Zaluski ( Bishop of Kyiv ), the founders of the Zaluski Library in Warsaw, one of the largest libraries of the 18th century. He also financed the theological seminary in Pultusk.
