Andrzej Sztolf

Andrzej Sztolf (born 9 June 1941 in Przeworsk, † February 1, 2012 in Kraków ) was a Polish ski jumper.

Career

Sztolf was born in 1941 as the son of the two physical education teachers Łucji and Tadeusz Sztolf in Przeworsk in Soviet- occupied Poland. Even as a child he started with athletics as well as the ski jumping. In 1949 he moved with his family to Szklarska Poręba in western Poland, where he recorded the ski jumping training on a K27 ski jump again. A little later he won the championship of the railway sports association. In 1956 he was admitted to the junior national squad.

His international debut at the senior citizens he gave at the Four Hills Tournament 1962 /63. After a weak first tour with rank 33 overall, Sztolf succeeded in the Four Hills Tournament 1963/64, the breakthrough. After rank 23 on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf he succeeded with rank 13 on the Great Olympic ski jump in Garmisch -Partenkirchen the first time the jump to the top. His best individual result he reached tenth finally the conclusion in Bischofshofen on the Paul Ausserleitner hill. In the overall standings, he thus reached Rank 21

In the following Winter Olympic Games in 1964 in Innsbruck Sztolf reached on the normal hill Rank 26 After a season break at the Four Hills Tournament, he won at the Polish Championships in 1965 by the normal and the large hill its only two national title.

In the Winter Universiade in 1966 in Sestriere, he won silver in the individual competition, having already won the bronze medal at the Winter Universiade 1964 in Spindleruv Mlyn.

Once in the following years he achieved no great success more and was not nominated for the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1966, and in 1970, he finished in 1971 his active ski jumping career. Previously, he won the silver medal once again on the big hill at the Polish Championships in 1967 and 1968.

After the End of career Sztolf began studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Krakow. After his retirement he settled in Zakopane, where he founded a company for the construction of blinds in winter and worked as a ski instructor. Sztolf was a member of the Democratic Party of Poland ( Stronnictwo Demokratyczne ).
