Andy Narell

Andy Narell ( born March 18, 1954 in New York City ) is an American jazz musician ( pianist, percussionist, bandleader ). He led the Steel Pan in jazz.

Life

Narrell grew up in New York and was encouraged by his father, who there led a social program for street children and organized a Caribbean project in its context, to the steel drums. As a teenager, he deepened his knowledge self-taught; later he also took lessons. In 1966 he met during a visit to Trinidad the instrument makers Elliot Mannette know, where he took lessons. This has been invited by Narells father to New York.

Andy Narell studied at the University of California, Berkeley piano and graduated from training in 1973. He abdicated in 1984 with the quintet of Darol Anger and Barbara Higbie ( Montreux ) and was involved until 1987, also on the albums of this band.
