Andy Rubin

Andrew Rubin is an American software developer. Until March 13, 2013, he was the developer of the smartphone operating system Android, and as Vice President of Engineering at Google responsible for the development.

Career

Andy Rubin began in 1989 as a software engineer at Apple Inc. He later worked at General Magic, where he already developed an operating system and an interface for mobile devices called Magic Cap. As the success of Magic Cap failed to materialize, Rubin went to Artemis Research, which was later adopted as the WebTV from Microsoft.

After several years, Rubin founded with Matt Hershenson and Joe Britt Danger Inc., which was also acquired in February 2008 by Microsoft.

After his dismissal as CEO of Danger Rubin founded Android 2003.

In an Android presentation at Stanford University Rubin met the Google founders Larry Page know who was enthusiastic about Ruby vision to create a free mobile operating system. In 2005, Google Android for $ 50 million, and Andy Rubin was chief developer of Android. The Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, both personally absegneten the budget for this acquisition, denote the Android takeover as "the best acquisition of all times". The market research firm Piper Jaffray assumed that Google would already implement with advertising around Android in 2012, 1.3 billion U.S. dollars.

On March 13, 2013 it was announced that Rubin put down from his position as Vice President of Engineering. The successor takes over the former senior vice president of Android apps and Google Chrome Sundar Pichai. Beginning in December 2013 it was announced that Rubin is employed in the Google Group as Head of robot research.
