Ángel Reyes

Ángel Reyes Camejo (* 1889 in Matanzas, † after 1941 ) was a Cuban composer and violinist.

Reyes studied in Cienfuegos at Cesar Bonafu and in Havana in Pedro Sanjuán. He became a follower of the well-known under the name Sonido 13 music theory of the Mexican composer Julián Carrillo and headed in Havana a Grupo Sonido 13, 1932 he was cultural attaché to the Cuban Embassy in Paris.

Later Reyes lived in the U.S., where he taught at the University of Michigan and Northwestern University. He was also a member of the Northwestern Piano Trio Gui Mombaerts (piano) and Dudley Powers ( cello). In his possession were two famous violins: the Lipinski Stradivarius, on he recorded in 1942 with the Orquesta de la Habana Filarmónica under Massimo Freccia Glazunov's Violin Concerto, and the Kreisler Bergonzi.

Also Reyes ' son, Angel Reyes (1919-1988) made ​​his name as a violinist. The pupil of the Conservatoire de Paris in 1937 reached the tenth place in the international Ysaye ( Queen Elisabeth ) Competition in Brussels, debuted in 1941 in Carnegie Hall under Eugene Ormandy and was a professor at several universities in the United States.
