Angelis Gatsos

Angelis Gatsos (Greek Αγγελής Γάτσος, * 1771 in Sarakinovo, today Sarakini, † 1839 in Chalkida ) was a Greek slawischsprachiger Mitlitärkommandeur during the Greek Revolution.

Gatsos came from the region zentralmakedonischen Almopia and played in the Greek War of Independence an important role, not only in Macedonia, but also in Central Greece. At the age of 20 he joined the Klephts groups in Central Macedonia and played a leading role in the conquest of Naoussa from the Ottoman Empire 1822. After the Ottoman army had destroyed the city, he fled with Anastasios Karatasos by southern Greece, where he many of fighting for the Greek Independence participated. In 1826 he went to Euboea, where he formed his own battle group, with which he participated in the Battle of Atalandi in Boeotia. After the founding of the Kingdom of Greece, he joined the Greek army and died in the rank of Colonel in 1839 in Chalkida.
