Angelo Amato
Cardinal Angelo Amato SDB ( born June 8, 1938 in Molfetta, Bari, Italy Province ) is an Italian religious priests and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and the current Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
Life
After entering the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco Amato studied Catholic theology and philosophy and received on 22 December 1967, the sacrament of Holy Orders. In 1974 he received his doctorate at the Gregorian University in Rome for the Doctor of Philosophy and was subsequently professor of dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome, where he was also Dean of the Faculty of Theology and 1997-2000 Vice Rector.
Even as a consultant to the Congregation for the Doctrine of working, as well as the Pontifical Councils for Promoting Christian Unity and Interreligious dialogue, Pope John Paul II appointed him on 19 December 2002 Titular Archbishop of Sila and appointed him as Secretary of the Congregation for the doctrine of the Faith. On January 6, 2003, he donated John Paul II in St. Peter's episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Leonardo Sandri and Antonio Maria Vegliò.
On 9 July 2008, he was named Pope Benedict XVI. Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
In solemn consistory of November 20, 2010 Pope Benedict XVI took him. as cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Santa Maria in Aquiro in the College of Cardinals.
Following the resignation of Benedict XVI. Cardinal Amato took part in the conclave in 2013, was elected to the Pope Francis.
