Angelo Ogbonna Obinze (born 23 May 1988 in Cassino ) is an Italian football players with Nigerian roots.

Career

In the club

Angelo Ogbonna is the son of Nigerian immigrants and came up with 14 years in the youth academy of FC Turin. At 18, he first played for the first team of the club in Serie A. In order to gain experience, he was loaned in the 2007/ 08 season in the southern Italian FC Crotone, which was previously relegated to the third division. After the year he returned to Turin and established himself there in Erstligateam. In December 2008, he was lucky when he drove his car into a river and escaped with minor injuries. In the second round he moved more and more into the starting lineup, but ended the 2009 season with the descent of Turin.

Ogbonna remained loyal to the club, he played three years in the second division and has developed into the center of defense to one of the most valuable players on the team. In the 2011/12 season he was under Giampiero Ventura part of the outstanding defense of the team that conceded just 28 goals conceded in 42 games, where he played 39 games away. The performance was rewarded with second place and returning to the top flight.

In the National Team

Although Angelo Ogbonna was staying in the summer of 2009 with the Torino FC in Serie B, he had noticed the leaders in the Italian Federation and was appointed shortly afterwards in the U- 21 team. For the first time he joined on August 12, 2009 in a friendly match against the Russian U- 21 for the Italian juniors. After that, he was regularly used in qualifying for the European Junior Championships.

Although he also got offers from Nigeria to play in the national team, refused Ogbonna and was rewarded when he was appointed the first time in the squad of the Italian senior team in June 2011. For the first use, it came a few months later, when he came off the bench on 11 November by coach Cesare Prandelli during a friendly match in Poland in the final quarter of an hour. After that he was set up in February in a friendly against the United States over the full season and was then taken up surprisingly the only second division player in late May 2012 in the European Championship squad in Italy.
