Anglo-Iraqi Treaty (1930)

As Anglo - Iraqi contracts is a series of agreements that were concluded in the 1920s and 1930s between the Government of Iraq and the British mandatory power.

The area of present-day Iraq, consisting of the former Turkish vilayet of Mosul, Baghdad and Basra, was found after the end of the Ottoman Empire after the First World War under British control. At the San Remo Conference in 1920 the UK was the area awarded by the League of Nations as a mandate. The three vilayet was summarized for the British Mandate of Mesopotamia. After the Iraqi revolution of 1920/1921 a Hashemite monarchy with King Faisal I. was established as the first ruler in Iraq. With this new government joined the British in 1922 the first Anglo- Iraqi Treaty, which for a fixed period of 20 years zusprach UK a control function in the administration of the country. The Treaty of 1926 this period was shortened to 10 years, and thus sought the dismissal of Iraq into the national independence for 1932. The last Anglo- Iraqi agreement dated June 30, 1930 and committed both countries to foreign policy cooperation and military assistance. In addition, he secured the UK military presence in the form of military bases near Basra and Al Habbaniyah.
