Angola International Airport
Angola International Airport is the future name of the new major airport is currently under construction, the Angolan capital Luanda. It occurs about 40 km south-east of the city center on the territory of the county Zango, which is part of Viana, in the province of Luanda and is an alternative to the existing city airport " Aeroporto Quatro de Fevereiro ".
The opening of the new airport is planned for 2015/2016 and shall be designed for a passenger traffic of 13 million passengers per year and will be provided with 12 passenger boarding bridges. Executive construction companies are a consortium of Chinese construction companies under the auspices of the Hong Kong incorporated in 2003 China International Fund and the Brazilian Odebrecht Organization. The Chinese have mashed to a new large-scale construction village with accommodation for workers and materials depots east of Viana from the ground. They called Vila Chinesa.
Prehistory
Since the end of the civil war in 2002, takes place in Angola rapid economic growth. To cope with the increasing business with the whole world and to secure the dramatic increase in logistics networks in Angola, the construction of a new and large international airport was inevitable.
The project
The grounds of the ultra-modern passenger terminals should claim 160,000 square meters, the area of the cargo terminal will be 6,200 square feet and will have a capacity of 35,000 tons of freight per year. There are two start and runways built. The northern runway is 4,200 meters long, while the southern slope will be 3,800 meters long; both measure 60 meters in width. The date of commissioning was scheduled for 2010, but will be considerably delayed. The work is temporarily suspended. The construction costs, which are fully financed by China, should be around 300 million U.S. dollars.
It is assumed that the total area of the airport accounts for at least 50 square kilometers, with other complementary infrastructure such as shops, hangars, restaurants, offices, and the construction of a hotel are not included near the airport. The project also includes the construction of a rail link to the capital, in the province of Luanda, and possibly to the neighboring province of Malanje. To enable a controlled access of ( and departure to ) Luanda by road, must the existing national road which leads from Luanda via Viana to the east, are significantly expanded, as in its previous width on the track to Viana during the day usually prevails storage and must be moved in step.
