Angolan legislative election, 1986

The elections to the National Assembly of Angola in 1986 were sham elections. On the ballots were only the candidates, the only legal party in the then one-party state in Angola, the Marxist -Leninist state party, Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola ( MPLA ).

A system of indirect elections and candidates by finding committee ensured that only the state party agreeable candidates were selected. 289 seats have been allocated. The candidates had to be a member of the ruling party MPLA and answer questions of voters on public gatherings.
