Aníbal Matellán

Aníbal Samuel Matellán ( born May 8, 1977 in General Villegas, Argentina) is an Argentine football player. He is currently in the Argentine first division club Arsenal de Sarandi in the Primera División under contract. In the season 2006/2007 Matelláns club Gimnàstic was already prematurely relegated to the second tier firm. Matellán, who is a devout Christian, lives with his wife Julietta.

Sports career

The 1.82 meter tall and 82 kilogram defender played in the youth at Eclipse General Villegas. From 1996 to 2001 Matellán played for Boca Juniors, before the left-footed by FC Schalke 04 was bound for a transfer fee in the amount of four million dollars. There he played for three years and was partly due to a hamstring injury of months. As Schalke in the aftermath undertook two new central defender, Argentina asked for the contract. This request came to the club after the beginning of July 2004. Then he moved back to his native Argentina to the Boca Juniors. After only a year, the Spanish football club Getafe brought under coach Bernd Schuster the Argentines to Spain. In Getafe Matellán had a one year contract, with a mutual option to extend the contract. However, he moved in 2006 to the then First Division Gimnàstic de Tarragona - climber. For the season 2007/ 08 he moved to Arsenal de Sarandi. There he remained until 2010, and came at this time to 86 missions, where he scored four goals. In 2010, he moved to Mexican side Club San Luis. Since the Apertura 2010 here 30 games will be conducted at three goals scored for him.

Achievements

Matellán celebrated his greatest successes in Argentina with Boca Juniors, and in Germany at Schalke 04 with Boca Juniors, he was, among other Argentine Champion 2001, winner of the Copa Libertadores in 2000 and 2001, and World Cup winner in 2000 against Real Madrid, where he as against Players Luís Figo played. With Schalke 04 the Argentines can record winning the DFB Cup in 2002 and reaching the final of the League Cup in 2001 and 2002. For Schalke 04 Matellán also played in the Champions League and the UEFA Cup. In Spain he finished with Getafe in the 2005/2006 season in ninth place.
