Animals as Leaders

Animals as Leaders is a solo project of guitarist Tosin Abasi, which is 2007 in Washington DC was founded, after whose band reflux had resolved. The band's name is derived from the book Ishmael by Daniel Quinn.

Band History

After Tosin Abasis band Reflux disbanded, Prosthetic Records made ​​him because of his skills guitaristic the proposal to record a solo album. Initially rejected Tosin from the offer because he thought it unnecessary and selfish to pursue a solo career. When reflux was finally apart, he accepted the offer. Along with Misha Mansoor of Periphery, they created the self-titled album Animals as Leaders, which was released on 28 August 2009 via Prosthetic Records. During the recording Tosin Abasi took over both the guitar and the bass and with the help of Misha Mansoor, the remaining parts for drums and keyboards were added by computer program and synthesizer.

For live performances to cope Tosin put a solid line-up from Javier Reyes, Chebon Littlefield and Navene Koperweis. In March 2012 Navene Koperweis left the band to devote himself increasingly to his solo projects. As a new drummer Matt Garstka was brought into the band.

Style

The band's style can be classified difficult, as some songs of the band are acoustic, while others contain heavy riffs. The band describes the style on her MySpace page itself as experimental progressive metal. Another feature of the band is that their music is purely instrumental.
