Ankara Vilayet

The Vilayet was an Ottoman vilayet Ankara in north-central Anatolia with the city of Ankara in the center and as the provincial capital.

It was built in 1864.

The Angora province was heavily agricultural, dependent on the prosperity of its grain and Wollproduktiuon and by Mohair - obtained from the Angora goat. Another important industry was the carpet weaving in Kırşehir and Kayseri. There were mines mining for silver, copper, lignite and salt.

There was the sanjak Ankara, Kırşehir, Kayseri and Yozgat.

Population

1914, 877 285 of the population Muslim. There were in the vilayet Ankara in 1914, a year before the start of the Armenian genocide 51 556 Armenian inhabitants who were later killed or driven out.
