Anna Bligh

Anna Bligh (born 14 July 1960 in Warwick, Queensland) is an Australian politician and was on 13 September 2007 to 26 March 2012, the 37th Premier of Queensland. She was the first woman to hold the post, is the Labor Party on.

Biography

Anna Bligh was born in Warwick. She is a descendant of Bounty become known as Commander William Bligh. She grew up on the Gold Coast to the south-east Queensland. There Bligh first attended several Roman Catholic elementary schools and then the Miami State High School. The last six months of her schooling, she spent at the State High School in Nowra. Bligh studied until her graduation with a Bachelor of Arts in 1980 at the University of Queensland. She then worked for various social organizations and public services in the areas of employment, training and Industrial Relations. The parliament of Queensland, she was elected on 15 July 1995.

Parliamentary activity

In June 1998 she was appointed in Peter Beattie's Labor government as Minister of Family, Youth, Health and the disabled. Ann Bligh was the first woman under Queensland's education ministers. Later, she became Minister for Finance, State Development, Trade and Innovation. In 2005 she was Deputy Premier of Queensland and at the same time Treasurer and Infrastructure Minister with a budget of 33 billion Australian dollars.
