Anna Salai

Anna Salai (Tamil: அண்ணா சாலை [ aɳ ː ɑ ː ː sɑ lɛi̯ ] " Anna- road " ), formerly engl. Mount Road, is the main street of Chennai (Madras ), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The former Mount Road in 1971 after the politicians CN Annadurai ( called Anna ) renamed Anna Salai.

Anna Salai starts at Fort St. George at the mouth of Cooum and from there to the southwest in the direction of St. Thomas Mount in the south of Chennai (hence the old name of Mount Road ). It ends at the junction Kathiapara Junction, where it divides into the head towards the western suburb of Mount Poonamallee leading - Poonamallee Road and extending further to the south-west trunk road Grand Southern Trunk Road ( National Highway 45). The Anna Salai is 12.6 km long and has six lanes. A 1800 meter long stretch of road, the Anna Flyover is built as a high street. The Anna Salai is the main business center of Chennai. The street is lined with office buildings such as the 14-storey LIC building, shopping malls like the famous Spencer Plaza, other businesses such as Higginbotham 's, the oldest booksellers in India, and five star hotels. Is also the locus of the new building of the Parliament building of the state of Tamil Nadu, the Anglican St. George 's Cathedral and the Thousand Lights Mosque on the Anna Salai.
