Anne Sophie Reventlow

Anna Sophie, Countess of Reventlow (* April 16, 1693 at Schloss Claus Holm; † January 7, 1743 ibid ) was the wife of the Danish King Frederick IV and 1721-1730 Danish queen.

Life

Countess Anna Sophie was a daughter of the Danish chancellor Conrad von Reventlow from his second marriage with Sophie Amalie von Hahn (1664-1722) and half-sister of General Christian Detlev von Reventlow.

She met Frederick IV in 1711 at a masked ball and fell in love in the 22 years her senior monarch. A year later, they kidnapped the king and the two joined in 1712 in Skanderborg a morganatic marriage. From then led Anna Sophie the title Duchess of Schleswig. A few days after the death of Queen Louise, she completed on April 4, 1721 a formal marriage with Frederick IV and was crowned Queen.

To date, Anna Sophie Reventlow is the only Danish queen, who was not of royal family. The Reventlow family is part of the Danish-German nobility.

The marriage led to a break in the royal family, Crown Prince Christian detested his stepmother deeply, Prince Carl and Princess Sophie Hedwig, siblings Frederick IV, left Copenhagen. Anna Sophie's family, designated by the name " the Reventlow - band ", won great political influence. After the king's death in 1730 was Anna Sophie from Copenhagen marketed and died on their estates in Claus Holm near Randers in Jutland.
