Annibale Bozzuti

Annibale Bozzuti ( born February 2, 1521 Monte Irpino in Naples, † October 6, 1565 in Chiaia at Naples ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Member of a family of Neapolitan patrician class, he joined in 1547 as a spokesman for the protesters, who opposed the introduction of the Inquisition by the viceroy Pedro Alvarez de Toledo. After the suppression of the riots, he was expelled with other leaders from the indult, the Emperor Charles V granted the city of Naples, and therefore went into exile in Rome. Kinship with Alessandro Farnese facilitated him a career in the Roman Curia, as well as his studies of both rights. Several times he was Konklavepräfekt, since 1556 also chamber cleric. After abandoning Farnese Bozzuto was 1551-1562 Archbishop of Avignon, the archdiocese had but then again cede to Farnese. He was appointed on March 12, 1565 by Pope Pius IV, a Neapolitan, Cardinal and got San Silvestro in Capite as titular church. A few months later he died in the Chiaia quarter of Naples, on a stone disease. He was buried in the Cathedral of Naples.
