Anomalepididae
The American Blind Snakes ( Anomalepididae ) are a family of snakes ( Serpentes ). In most cases these are small worm-like snakes in South and Central America 15-30 cm body length, which live underground. There are about 20 known species.
The American Blind snakes presented earlier than Anomalepis species a genus within the blind snakes ( Typhlopidae ) represents, however, were due to the dentition of the mandible associated with a dental as well as the complete loss of the pelvic bones creating a family. Today we distinguish four genera within the family: Anomalepis ( with the Mexican blind snake ( Anomalepis mexicanus ) as the best known type ), Helminthophis, Liotyphlops, Typhlophis.
