Anorectal abscess

As periproctitis ( syn. Paraproktitis ) is called near an inflammation of the tissues, but outside of the lined by mucous membrane lumen of the rectum. The reasons are typically mechanical injury, such as after hemorrhoid surgery.

If there is an abscess in this area, so it is called a " periproktitischen or perianal abscess "; such may be located, for example, in the closed or pelvic floor muscles, but also below the surface of rectal mucosa.

The term derives from the Greek words περί (peri, "close" ) and πρωκτός ( proctos, "after ", " anus ").
