Anote Tong

Anote Tong ( born June 11, 1952 Tabuaeran ( Fanning Iceland ) ) is since July 10, 2003, President of Kiribati.

He won the 2003 elections with a small majority of 47.4 %. The opposition accused him of electoral fraud, the High Court has, however, rejected the accusation.

The promised during the election attitude of the satellite base of the People's Republic of China, he could not prevail because he resumed diplomatic relations with the Republic of China ( Taiwan ) and thus prompted the PRC to evacuate the facility.

Elected for a second term with 64 % of the vote in 2007, he was re-elected on 13 January 2012 in the third term with only just over 42 % of the vote.

On January 17, 2012, he summoned his third cabinet.
