Antaeus

Antaeus Antaeus or (Greek Ἀνταῖος, Latin Antaeus, from άντάω, antao I = kick contrary, I meet ) is a giant from Greek mythology.

He was the son of Poseidon and Gaia with almost invincible strength. Home, he was in Libya and he measured about 60 Greek Ellen ( 28.44 m). He used to force all passing travelers to fight him - and he won always. From the skulls of the vanquished, he made a temple to his father Poseidon. Antaeus lived in his cave or in the city Tingis which he is said to have built themselves, and chased strangers, lions (which he ate ) and inhabitants of his country: As the hero Heracles met the Giants, he also was of Antaeus, the fighting challenged; it was no contest, as Antaeus received new strength from the earth again and again. Heracles recognized during the almost hopeless struggle, that the strength of the giant had come from his mother Gaia, the earth, lifted him off the ground into the air and strangled Antaeus the deprived of his powers there.
