Antal Benda

Antal Benda [ ɒntɒl bɛndɒ ] ( born April 14, 1910 in Palánka; † January 29, 1997 in Budapest) was a Hungarian field handball player. He finished with the Hungarian team to fourth place at the 1936 Summer Olympics and won bronze at the box Handball World Cup 1938.

Their first game at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin lost the Hungarians 22:0 against the favored German team, as they could their second game against the United States but win 7:2, they qualified for the final round. There they had no chance and all three games were pretty much lost. In the end, the team remained therefore only the thankless fourth place behind the teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Antal Benda played four games during the tournament, however, was able to achieve a goal.

In the Field Handball World Cup 1938, the Hungarian team won their first round game against Denmark with 10:6. In the semifinals they lost again significantly with 14:3 against Germany. By 10:2 against Sweden in the 3rd place match Antal Benda could but still with the Hungarian team win the bronze medal.
