Anthonie Palamedes

Anthonie Palamedesz. (* In Delft in 1601, † November 27, 1673 in Amsterdam ), also called Stevers, was a Dutch portrait and genre painter.

Life

Palamedesz. was the son of a gem cutter and students by Michiel van Mierevelt and Frans Hals. At the age of about 20 years, the painters' guild in his hometown in 1621 took him on as a member. Between 1653 and 1673 he was Dean of Guild repeated.

In addition to his teachers Mierevelt and neck Palamedesz was. also influenced by Dirck Hals. His subjects found Palamedesz. in his hometown, where he has captured scenes from the life of the people in ever new variations on the canvas. Due to the accurate representation of his attention to detail was Palamedesz. also been an important source for the history of culture.

Of his works are in museums in Berlin, Brussels, Gotha, Copenhagen, Lille, Nantes, Paris, Rotterdam, Schwerin and Saint Petersburg.

He was the older brother of the battle- painter Palamedes Palamedesz ( 1607-1638 ).
