Anthony Maria Zaccaria

Antonio Maria Zaccaria (* 1502 in Cremona, † July 5, 1539 ibid ) was the founder of Barnabite and Catholic saint.

Life

Zaccaria studied in Pavia and Padua medicine and worked as a young physician in the arms of Cremona, where Battista da Crema influenced him. Zaccaria in 1528 was ordained a priest. In 1530 he was chaplain to the Countess Ludovica Torelli in Milan, which helped him in the creation of the Order and the female branch of the Angelics. 1533 saw Pope Clement VII to the Barnabites. Zaccaria traveled as a preacher of his religious mission in northern Italy. His innovations in the field of Catholic customs and rites impressed the faithful, but are included suspicious of some church authorities. He died on July 5, 1539 in Cremona and was buried in Milan.

Zaccaria was highly revered after his death by the people, which led to his canonization in 1897. It appears in the religious habit with Lily, Chalice with Host and cross. His feast day is July 5th, the day of his death.
