The mountain kidney vetch ( Anthyllis montana) is a perennial plant of the genus Anthyllis ( Anthyllis ).

Features

The mountain -vetch is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches the stature heights of up to 20 cm and often grows like cushions. The prostrate to ascending arching stems can become woody at the base and is especially densely hairy above. The leaves are pinnate and all have eight to twenty lanceolate, to 10 mm long lateral part leaves and a terminal leaf, which are hairy on both sides. The leaf sheath is quite long ( subsp at Alpine Anthyllis Anthyllis vulneraria. Alpestris is this short) and reaches to the lowest part of leaves.

The little head shaped inflorescences have a diameter of up to 3 cm and contain many Short-stalked flowers. The bracts are divided palmate and as the calyx densely hairy. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and fünfzählig double perianth. The pink to purple- colored crown is 12 to 16 cm long. The flowering period extends from May to July.

Occurrence

The range extends from Spain to the south-western Alps and the Jura to the Apennines. In the montane to subalpine altitudinal zones of the mountain kidney vetch thrives at altitudes 500-2400 meters in front on stony pastures, limestone scree and rocks.
