Antoine Baumé

Antoine Baume ( born February 26, 1728 in Senlis, † October 15th 1804 in Paris) was a French chemist and pharmacist who invented a hydrometer whose graduation was named after him ( degrees Baume, unit ° Bé ).

Baume led 1752 in Paris, a pharmacy and was built in 1787 members of the Collège de Pharmacie. Developed by him with the Scaled Baume scale has made it possible to determine the density of sulfuric acid or electroplating baths. Also improved distillation units have been constructed by Baume.

Baume was from 1773 a member of the Académie des sciences.
