Antoine Mahaut

Antoine Mahaut (also: Anton Mahault ) (* 1729 in Namur, † 1785 ) was a composer from what is now Belgium, flutist and a music editor.

Life

Mahaut was probably trained by his father, 15 - year old, he entered the service of the Bishop of Namur, Thomas de Strickland de Sigergh. In 1736 he traveled to London where he met the publisher John Walsh, who published his "Six Sonatas or Duets ". From 1737 to 1760 he lived in Amsterdam, from where he fled because of unsecured debt glichener to Paris, where he had spent in the years 1740 and 1755. Also led him to travel to Dresden and Augsburg. In 1751 he received a royal privilege to publish his works. He spent his retirement years since 1760 in a French convent to escape as his Amsterdam creditors.

  • 6 " symphony a quadro " ( Augsburg, 1751 )

The symphonies are similar to the style of Carl Stamitz or François -Joseph Gossec.
